PIERCE MCBEE SMITH

Alright, alright, alright... I'll write

I'm a Los Angeles based communications expert; passionate about crafting clean, creative, metrics-driven copy. Having worked in the music, politics, and education space, for companies located in China, Brazil, Ireland, Washington DC, and Atlanta, I've got a proven track record as a versatile content creator, eager to continue learning and developing my skill set.

MY STORY

Throughout my career, I've had the good fortune of working in various capacities in a number of different countries around the world. Growing up in Washington, DC led me to begin my career on Capitol Hill as an intern for Congressman Jim Clyburn, where I drafted responses to constituent inquiries on a number of policy issues.

Eager to further my education, I set off to Ireland to pursue a MA in Communications from Dublin City University. After the completion of my Masters, in which I wrote my thesis on Reddit's Contribution to Public Discourse, I remained in Dublin for another year, working as a Communications Associate for Lee Communications. We serviced a plethora of tech startups, politicians, associations, and organizations on public affairs and public relations campaigns.

After my time in Ireland, I felt a calling to move to Brazil for a year of personal development and exploration. I found a job teaching English at a small, private school, two hours west of São Paulo. During this year, I gained fluency in Portuguese as well as gaining a new perspective on my native tongue. Learning a new language while teaching my own, revealed to me a new insight into linguistics and the cognition that precedes it.

I left my beloved Brazilian town for an amazing opportunity in the dynamic city of Shanghai, China where I went to work as an education consultant. Apart from experiencing the exhilarating energy of China's largest city, I further honed my writing and editing abilities. Working for Ivygate International, I consulted some of China's most elite high school and college students on their applications to top-ranking American universities.

Eager to come back home to the States, I decided there was no place better to pursue my writing aspirations than the creative capitol of the world, Los Angeles, California. My first job here was working with Yusef Robb, the former communications director to Mayor Eric Garcetti. I worked directly with him on array of public relations projects for clients including: Rob Reiner, Los Angeles Community Colleges,  Spin, The Hub Project, Congressman Tony Cardenas, Mayor Eric Garcetti.

I then jumped at the exciting opportunity to move into the music technology space, accepting a job at Native Instruments, a Berlin-based music hardware and software company. I took part in the unique and ambitious project of  building Sounds.com, an innovative web platform, aimed at disrupting the music production industry. To put it simply, its like a Spotify for music producers. During my 14 months at Sounds, I wrote copy for the customer and partner facing newsletters, landing page copy, and the curated collections on the site's home page. I helped to shape the voice of the platform, consistently delivering creative, metrics-based copy, driving up the click-rates, open rates and number of subscribers.
